I had reservations about the previous book in Scott Graham’s National Park Mysteries Series: it seemed to me that archeologist Chuck Bender’s wife and kids just got in the way of an otherwise gripping tale about Yellowstone National Park. But in the aptly titled “Yosemite Fall,†the family elements click. Chuck’s spouse Janelle and daughter Carmelita play major roles in a multilayered and ingenious plot about soaring and climbing in the spectacular California wilderness. My only regret this time is that the ending feels abrupt. No complaints, however, about a memorable prologue that hits all the right notes.
Scott Graham is an incredibly creative writer using settings in the national parks and story lines that are intriguing, with complex characters. It's obvious his attention to descriptive detail comes from truly knowing the environments and subject matter thoroughly. I'm fully engaged in this mystery series and can't wait for the next one!

I love to read.
This is the first of Scott Graham's books that I've read. I was excited by the positive reviews, blurbs by some excellent crime writers, interesting setting, and use of the climbing and BASE jumping community. However, I've had to force myself to read much of this book. The writing is oddly wooden, with lots of detailed descriptions of characters and the clothes they wear but little inner monologue from the protagonist. At one point I found myself questioning whose book this really was -- Chuck's, Janelle's, or someone else's. The author checks the boxes for what is required in a mystery, but I don't find I care all that much about any of the characters including victims. Chuck's stepdaughter may be the most compelling character in the book. Based on other reviewers' comments, I might try another of Graham's national park mysteries. On the other hand, my "to read" pile of books is overflowing. It's really a shame. I wanted to love this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Yosemite Fall. Graham provides wonderful descriptions of landscapes within Yosemite National Park, interesting friendship and family dynamics, and a solid mystery for the reader to unravel. Yosemite Fall is an entertaining summer read and I highly recommend it!The publisher provided me a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
I love our National Parks and this series of mysteries are compelling and fun! Yosemite Fall did not disappoint and thus far it is my favorite (and 4th book) of the series. Mr. Graham brings out the natural beauty of this beloved park and then creates a mystery that keeps you riveted until the end. On a side note, if you are curious about rock climbing this will pull you in right away. I appreciate the descriptive detail of a place I cherish so much, and unraveling the mystery keeps me coming back for more!

I am a big fan of Debbie Macomber. I ordered this book from Amazon, and I am not paid to write a review, nor did I get this book as a promotion. Like Debbie, I live my life in faith, enjoy reading, and writing, crafts, and family time. This book was wonderful, and I read it a little after 3 months of my husband's passing. So I could identify with Padtor Drew who lost his wife. This book had so many soulful insights! I also could relate to the main character Shay coming out of prison, trying to get her life back. I have a friend who is up for parole. Like so many of us, Shay made a mistake, and paid a high price. Just loosing my husband, it is hard to have hope or dreams, so like Shay I could relate! Debbie, this book made me smile, it made me cry, it made me think, it made me feel blessed, and thank God for His many blessings..., including you who as writer have brought such joy in to my life! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this book. It truly touched my soul!
I've really loved Debbie Macomber's books for years, but this isn't one of them. I'm really disappointed because I was eagerly looking forward to its release. While I like the inspirational slant of the book, that isn't the reason I didn't like it very well. I thought it was boring and, to me, the characters weren't well fleshed out at all. I would have liked to know more about them and their thoughts. I felt like she just skimmed over these details. I was bored and just couldn't finish it. I've noticed this happening in her last couple of books. Maybe she's just getting tired. I will buy her upcoming Christmas book because I really enjoy those, but if it seems to follow in the direction of her last books, that may be my last purchase. And speaking of purchases, I'm really sorry I shelled out $13.99 just for the Kindle version. Kindle books are getting so expensive that I may just get on a waiting list at the library for the new releases and check them out.
I read others reviews before beginning this book. I disagree with those reviews which said the characters were not believable. I appreciated the tender way Mrs. Macomber treated the painful past of the leading character. And I agree that God can change any person who opens up his or her heart to His love.
Having been a little disappointed after reading the last two Macomber novels, I was somewhat skeptical when this one was published. I am happy to say I can recommend this book. The characters are real and the situations that drive the story real. Perhaps the happy ending is a bit contrived and one can see who the sinner is before it is revealed, but still it is a good read and a fast read. In the world we inhabit it is nice to be reminded that we are all our brothers' keepers and everyone needs a second or third chance to change direction.
This book, in my opinion, is one of Ms. Macomber's best - if not her best - books! The plot as well as the characters were very well developed and made me want to read the story, giving me information as to the characters and their relationship with one another. Too, this book made me think, made me examine my own values and actions towards those who were coming out of prison. Do I treat them as redeemed? As guilty forever? Most of all, the book contained an element of faith without being overly preachy. Great stand alone book, one well worth its time to read!
Great read from Debbie Macomber! It is a little odd to be reading a Macomber book that is not part of a series. The character developement is strong and the story is encouraging. I am used to investing in the characters knowing they will repeat so this is a step away from Cedar Cove among others. I enoyed "Any Dream Will Do" more than some of her other stand alone stories. Keep writing Debbie- Love the positive stories about family and hope! If you read this and have not read "Blossom Street" or "Cedar Cove" you are in for a real treat.
Debbie Macomber is an author you need every now and then especially after a disturbing thriller. She's such an easy read and the ending is always a happy one. There's a bit too much God talk and religion in it but, for some reason, it doesn't really offend me. I gave this book four stars because it was a little too simple in the beginning and didn't get really good until the last third but she never disappoints.
I liked this book very much. It was a great story, but it also made you think. The fact that it was about someone who had a rough past was great, and I liked Macomber's honesty about the way the church can treat people like that, and how society in general treats the homeless, even those who perhaps have a better reason to be so than we might understand.
