After starting to examine a lot of data I find myself believing that higher CO2 levels has little or no impact on climate and is generally a good thing.The author presents some of the elements that people worry about in the initial chapters e.g. wind, rain, warming etc. and the reasons why we shouldn't be alarmed about our recent global warming period (since the little ice age) and explains where we are really in terms of ice ages / and inter-glacial warming periods.It`s a very short read and would be good for those that don`t have the time to spend researching a highly complex topic.The author also has a large appendix with many links for those that wish to dig deeper.The only thing I would say it`s missing is some good graphs e.g. say to explain how CO2 levels have been much higher in recent history or how there is generally no correlation between CO2 levels and temperature other than occasionally when CO2 lags temperature...

Both show the wide variability, if not inflated view, of the IPCC reports on warming by 2100. The IPCC is sanctioned by the UN, which is not known to be that supportive the USA superpower.CO2 is a factor, but there is natural climate warming going on also since the last Ice Age about 12k yrs ago. Neither book discusses alternative "cooling" methods found in other sources, such as injecting particulates in airliner exhausts to increase reflectance of the Sun (i.e Volcano effect). Also, Science" is never settled, they should always be looking for improvements. And if you're not sure of the answer, you can be working (spending money) on the wrong problem. Enjoy

My baby boy Bear passed away last Sunday. I've shed so many tears. He and I had a special bond. I don't know how to get over this grief... so I bought this book. It helped reading the verse that said all the animals I've ever loved will be waiting at the bridge... I miss you Bear, so very much. I'll see you at the bridge
I recently lost my furry baby Clyde due to an incurable disease. God knows the amount of tears I've shed and the scars left in my heart. I bought this book so it can help me heal. Speaking as a 24 year old woman I must say this book helped me tremendously. Of course I've cried the entire time I read this little book but it gives me hope. The book talks about how my kitten was brought by a guardian angel and that angel is taking care of him in heaven waiting until I see him again. As I write this review I am getting a little misty in the eyes must be the allergies lol great for kids but adults as well. God I miss my kitten and I hope this books helps you out as well.
I also purchased a dog version of this book while ordering the cat edition. Two of my friends have just lost their pets and I gave each one of them either a cat book or a dog book. They LOVED THEM. It brought tears to their eyes because it gave them the most beautiful memories of their furry four-legged babies. These books are well done and lovely to look at also. As usual, they were at my doorstop quite fast and I was happy with that.
I received this book in the mail from the veterinary hospital that treated our beloved cat, Salem, in his last days with us. It was a surprise to get a package from the hospital, and I couldn't imagine what could be inside. The doctor, along with the techs and receptionist, had written consoling messages inside the book's cover and they had attached a picture of Salem while he had been there receiving one of his hemodialysis treatments. The story is so sweet and touching, but I do get very, very sad anytime I read it.We lost Salem last October. He was only 4 years old. Uncharacteristically, he had eaten one of the lilies that I had purchased in a bouquet. Unbeknownst to me, ALL species of lily is fatally toxic to cats and it only takes a small amount of ANY part of the plant to quickly start kidney failure. If I had gotten him to the vet within the first 8 hours, he could have been saved, but it was about 72 hours after he ingested the plant that I realized what had happened. We took a 50/50 chance on his survival and put him through 3 hemodialysis treatments, but he didn't recover. He died at home with us at 12:30 AM on 10/01/07. We miss him terribly and look forward to joining him in Heaven one day.Now I am sending this book to a dear friend who just lost her 7 year old cat to cancer. I hope that it will console her in her time of deep loss and sorrow.
My friend had just lost her long time cat companion to old age, and others seemed to think she should "get over it" because the one mourned was a cat and not a person. But people have deep affection for their special furry children, and their feelings of loss and sorrow need to be acknowledged, and this book does that very nicely.
I had to make the heart wrenching decision to put my 18 year old cat down this past weekend. This book was a God send, to me and my 11 and 9 year old children. It is a very sweet and comforting read. I highly recommend to help with the grieving process, for kids and adults.
I had to make the hardest decision to have my 19 year old forever cat, Orson, put to sleep in December. I have bought books about how to deal with the greif, and there is a ton of grief and tears, but realized I needed something to read to bring me some hope of healing. This wonderful book does that and more. Yes, I cried more tears when I read it but this time just maybe they were healing tears. I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost his/her forever cat or as a gift to a friend who has lost a cat.
My best friend sent me a Willow Tree figurine of an angel holding a cat close to her after my forever cat Hannah died. While at a Barnes and Noble store I found the book "For Every Cat an Angel". I believe that companion animals do go to heaven. The figurine and book remind that one day I'll see all the cats I've lost over the years. I have since bought Willow Tree figurine and copies of the book to send to any friend who has a much loved cat die. It has helped me to grieve and rejoice. There is also a Willow Tree figure of an angel holding a dog very close and there is the book "For Every Dog an Angel for those who've lost beloved dogs.

About the Author
MONICA GAGLIANO, PhD, is Research Associate Professor of Evolutionary Ecology at the Centre of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Western Australia, a Research Affiliate at the Sydney Environment Institute at the University of Sydney, and former Fellow of the Australian Research Council. She is the author of numerous scientific articles in the fields of animal and plant behavioral and evolutionary ecology, and is the co-editor of The Green Thread: Dialogues with the Vegetal World (Lexington Books, 2015) and The Language of Plants: Science, Philosophy and Literature (Minnesota University Press, 2017). Her work has extended the concept of cognition (including perception, learning processes, memory and consciousness) in plants. Gagliano has pioneered the brand-new research field of plant bioacoustics, for the first time experimentally demonstrating that plants emit their own 'voices' and, moreover, detect and respond to the sounds of their environments. This work is shot through with scholarly, polysyllabic words, but don't let that deter you from the meat of the message. We can communicate with plants, trees and the rest of our living planet. This knowledge is vital for the survival of humans upon the earth. Without green living things, water will be out of control, air will not replenish the oxygen we need to breathe and no crops will be produced for us to eat! If we keep treating the rest of life like they are inanimate and as insensitive as the human male, we can destroy our very life support systems. I began reading this work and attuning my inner self to any messages around and felt an earthquake in my gut with landslides there, too. Behold the earthquake in Alaska and landslides in California. I did a vision quest with Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions, back in the 1970s and remain connected to the Earth thereby. This book will be a great help for survivors of the destruction being attempted by the real mean men. Read it and help us.

It's comprised of events of absolute bravery to pursue what, in her heart, she believed was her true path. It is interlaced with groundbreaking scientific experiments in the capabilities of plant life, and touches on some of the challenges along the way. It weaves together a very interesting fabric of vision and dream, science and reality, and time and place. I must admit that when I picked this book up I was expecting something different, but was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I felt as if it were such an intimate, personal account for her that I could almost hear Monica reading it with me.
I just received the book yesterday and finished it last night. I couldn’t put it down. A mesmerizing story from a credible scientist. Her proof that plants are intelligent, have memories and can learn pulls the rug out from under our worldview. And that is just what we need at this point in time. It will save us and everything else. Truly groundbreaking! Astounding! I can’t say enough good about it. Buy this book, read it, and talk about it to everyone you know.
What I liked most about this book is how it presents scientific results in a narrative way that is fun to read. What I disliked is that some of the narrative parts seemed a bit too sci-fi, emotional, and "religious" for my taste, like where the author goes into a dream communicating with plants.
Very thought provoking
Mind boggling and brimming with near-magical scientific discovery
Almost 50 years ago biologist James Lovelock, drawing on the work of earlier researchers, formulated the Gaia principle, or Gaia Hypothesis, as it has come to be known. This is the idea that organisms co-evolve with their environment, and that populations and their environments can be viewed as superorganisms. The Earth, its atmosphere, lakes, oceans, all its plants and animals, can be analyzed as a single complex organism- the Biosphere- much as a jellyfish can be seen as a community of separately reproducing organisms, or the human digestive system can be seen as a community of individual organisms reproducing within, and in concert with, the organs of the digestive tract.This was a radical notion when Lovelock first presented it, and it was widely derided as new-age nonsense. But over the decades since it has become more widely accepted, if not necessarily in its full form as laid out by Lovelock and his collaborators. Most revolutions in scientific thought begin as heresy, and end of as orthodoxy. It was with that in mind that I approached this book.Dr. Gagliano presents a radical hypothesis that draws on the Gaia principal, but takes it a step farther: Not only are plants co-evolving with their environment, as Lovelock hypothesized, they are actively learning from it, and communicating with other individuals within it. Plant communication in and of itself is not a terribly radical notion. It is, in fact, a well established phenomenon. It has been demonstrated that many plants under insect attack release pheromones that trigger a defensive response in nearby plants.Nor is the idea of learning of in plants- specifically, in Mimosa- a particularly new hypothesis, as similar studies were done as far back as the 1960s. Individual neurons are obviously capable of learning, and while they are particularly specialized to the task, there’s no reason in principal that other living cells shouldn’t demonstrate similar phenomena.But Gagliano takes a step beyond the accepted phenomena of plant communication, and argues for a plant intelligence, and for a nonphysical communication between plants and humans. Here, she seems to take a step away from scientific inquiry and into the realm of the metaphysical. Her data for these phenomena is not laboratory observation, but personal visions, most facilitated by the ingestion of plant hallucinogens, and wisdom imparted to her by traditional healers. For example, Gagliano describes a communication with some of her botanical subjects:“By prioritizing cues that supported growth, the peas spoke of responsibility. ‘Responsibility is that which you are moving toward.’ the plants have told me. ‘It is not a moral obligation but rather the actual movement that supports the expression of care.’â€This makes for very interesting reading, but it’s not science; a core characteristic of science is that it consists of observations and experiments that can be repeated by others. And while traditional knowledge is not to be universally disparaged, nor should it be accepted uncritically. True, many drugs, like quinine and aspirin, were used by traditional healers long before they were synthesized. At the same time, many cultures burned widows alive on the funeral pyres of their deceased husbands, believing that they would accompany them to the next world.Perhaps Gagliano is truly on to something here. Certainly the notion of a plant intelligence emerging from dozens or thousands of plants communicating, much like the intelligence of a termite mound or any hill, is worth considering. Hobbes wrote of an intelligence emerging from all living things and spirits in the 17th Century, and there are some cognitive scientists and philosophers today who take this seriously. But Gagliano’s hypotheses require more than the relating of personal mental events to rise to the level of science. Perhaps this book should be read not as science, but as metaphor, and the dialogs as koans to get us thinking about our interrelationship with the living things around us.
