This is a good, scientifically based (in the sense of being rationally argued) view for God's existence. Following Keith Ward's earlier arguments found in "More Than Matter", it is well written and easy to read-one does not have to be a philosophy professor in order to follow it (though I am one). Having taken a seminar with Keith several years ago, I can say that this book is just as entertaining as he is in person. A fine application of Idealism to the theological debate.

I haven't finished this because I just got it on Kindle late last night but it was hard to put down. So far it's very interesting. I like how the author writes; not at all dry or boring like some lecturers & not at all preachy. I'm really happy to have found this. I'm a life-long Christian; but, I think because I hardly know any Christians (especially mature ones) I enjoy these kinds of books. I have found several good ones..."The Case for Christ" for example written by "Lee Strobel" who's a converted atheist. Mr. Strobel interviewed several experts (his is very different from this one but I Highly Recommend it!)*UPDATED* REVIEW* Unfortunately, I have to change my review from "5 stars" to only 1 star. The author rambled on & on. It seems like he just wanted to hear himself "think" as if he was writing in a journal/diary. Sorry, but my journal makes better sense. The more I read the more boring & tedious it became until I couldn't understand a word he was saying. At first I thought it might be me...but no, it wasn't.

Haven' t read yet, but Keith Ward is one of the better authors for understanding modern interpretations of the Christian faith, giving reasons for our beliefs.

Keith Ward, FBA (born 1938) is a British philosopher, theologian, priest of the Church of England. He was Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford between 1991 and 2004. He has written many other books, such as Why There Almost Certainly is a God: Doubting Dawkins ,God, Chance and Necessity,More Than Matter?: Is There More to Life Than Molecules?,The Big Questions in Science and Religion,Religion and Human Nature,What the Bible Really Teaches: About Crucifixion, Resurrection, Salvation, the Second Coming, and Eternal Life, etc.He wrote in the first chapter of this 2014 book, “I think [David Attenborough and Brian Cox] are quite wrong when they discount spirituality. I also believe that science itself points in a very different direction. There is a huge amount evidence for the reality of a spiritual dimension to the world, and human life is going to be very different if the idea of God … disappears. But the fact that there is a huge amount of evidence has become so little recognized that it is going to have to be argued for.” (Pg. 2)He continues, “I will look at six main areas of human experience: at the arts, at morality, at philosophy, at science, at religion, and at personal experience. In each area, I will try to show that there are special experiences of values, and that these experiences are evidence for the existence of more than simply physical facts… When you take all these areas together, the evidence builds up to an impressive argument for seeing the world that we experience as communicating spiritual values---a ‘sense for the spiritual dimension’ that is beyond and yet expressed in and through physical facts…. I want to argue that… there are lots of human experiences that are, taken together, good evidence for the Spirit… Belief in Spirit will not be a mere leap of faith without any supporting evidence. It will be a fully rational and sensitive approach to the richest at most important parts of human experience.” (Pg. 10-11)He cautions, “It should be clear that looking for evidence for God, of for Spirit, or for spiritual reality, is not going to be like looking for evidence for some exotic animal… If you wonder whether there is a reality of supreme understanding, beauty and bliss, you are not going to find that out by looking for visible marks that some physical object makes. Spirit is not a physical object, so we will not be looking for evidence for something physical… Maybe that is why some scientists say there is no evidence for God or for spiritual reality…. So it is not surprising that there is no evidence OF THAT SORT. A different sort of evidence is needed.” (Pg. 6-7)He observes, “There is no ‘proof’ of one supreme spiritual reality from artistic experience. Art is too various and expressive of too many different perspectives on reality… What art does is to open a window onto depths of meaning and value in reality. In that sense it is evidence for the existence of objective values… not merely constructed by human minds, values which can have real existence… Art is evidence for a spiritual dimension to human experience. This does not get you to God. But there is a problem for a materialist… how can they exist, if the universe is wholly composed only of purely physical elements? It is at this point that the postulation of a non-human mind… in which ideas of beauty exist… strikes many as reasonable and natural.” (Pg. 19-20)He argues, “I am saying that belief in objective moral facts is entirely reasonable and entirely natural. If God exists, moral facts is entirely reasonable and entirely natural. If God exists, moral facts will have a natural and intelligible place in reality. That makes moral experience evidence for God, as well as for some rather different , non-theistic but definitely non-materialist, views.” (Pg. 30)He acknowledges, “Looking for evidence of cosmic purpose will be very different from looking for evidence that some rare physical animal exists somewhere in the universe. But there are certainly considerations that count for or against the existence of purpose…. I accept, however, that the evidence is not of the sort that will convince everyone… That fact will nevertheless help to make my main point, which is that evidence does exist, but that there is no way of conclusively establishing a conclusion to everyone’s satisfaction. Therefore it is false to say that there is no evidence for cosmic purpose. And it is false to say that belief in a cosmic mind which formulates such a purpose is somehow less rational than disbelief or agnosticism about such a mind.” (Pg. 38)He suggests, “Some religious people think that a perfect God would never create anything evil, so that everything that happened would always be good. If that was true, then God would never have created us!... maybe God need not have created us. But if God wanted to create us, with all our faults and failings, maybe God had not much choice about the basic laws and forces that would make up our universe.” (Pg. 45)He explains, “The God theory is not a scientific theory because it makes no detailed predictions about the future. That is hardly surprising… It does make some predictions---goodness will triumph, evil will be eliminated, the righteous will see God. But these predictions are not testable at the moment, and mostly lie far in the future, or even in some other form of existence. The job of the God theory is not, however, to provide predictions. It is to provide a basis for believing that the universe, and each life in particular, has a unique and valuable purpose which is given to it by a being of supreme perfection and power who can ensure that purpose will be realized.” (Pg. 68)He asserts, “Nobody seriously thinks that God just sets the universe going, and then ignores it altogether. The real question is… whether the whole universe, at every moment, depends on some deeper reality beyond itself… The universe does not keep going by itself. It is a consequence … of deeper goings on beyond our space-time… All the theist adds to this is that the deeper reality is conscious and purposive, not blind and pointless. This cosmic mind does not just set the universe going. Without its continued existence and support the universe would not exist at all.” (Pg. 74-75)He proposes, “the psychologist William James… made some suggestions about rational believing… Some of these beliefs will be ‘vital’---they will be of great practical importance… I have argued that the belief that there is a spiritual dimension to reality is such a belief… If such a belief is supportive of personal values and commitment to living a good human life, that is a good reason for accepting it, for trying it and seeing if it ‘works’—if it makes for a good, happy and fulfilled life… it would be irrational to ignore the inclinations of the heart towards the good, which help to make us fully personal beings.” (Pg. 135-136)He concludes, “This is the goal of the spiritual life---to know Spirit in all things, and to know all things in the Spirit… Spirit is not only real, but the one enduring reality that is expressed in everything that exists, and yet is infinitely beyond anything that can ever be fully expressed and understood by us… It is the heart of the idea of God. It remains for many millions that which is most fully real, the goal of life’s greatest journey, and, so millions hope, is it what lies at last to be revealed beyond the vail of this world’s time.” (Pg. 138)This book will be of keen interest to those looking for “evidence” for God/Spirit that is not simply “scientific” and dryly “factual.”

Such a writer is Moses Leon Howard. Howard’s chapters are like the scenes of a well-written screenplay, perhaps a television screenplay. I would say he’s a past master of tension resolution and that his narrative structure is all about emotion. The co-protagonist Jason and his sister Katura suffer emotional shock after emotional shock on their extraordinarily suspenseful journey to their Grandpa at Nanansi, Uganda to fetch a special solar lamp for their Grandma, who has travelled to Ruizi Town, Uganda to take care of their mother who is dying of AIDS. They had already lost their father to AIDS. I expect Howard’s readers will react to the emotional shocks exactly as he would wish them to where and when in the narrative. Each chapter is a story in miniature and possesses its own activity and change. Howard’s rhythm and tempo as related to variation in chapter length is modern and very likely to keep a teenage reader’s attention. “The Sky High Road” is allegorical particularly in the sense that the story can be interpreted to reveal hidden cultural meanings, which are moral and/or political. Jason passed the test for being a good young man by refusing the tempting opportunity to engage in sex with Selina, Katura’s friend, and irresponsibly running the risk of contacting AIDS. “You need to know that everything in science is connected to everything else.” seems to echo the Quantum Physics claim that the entire universe is likely to be connected atomically. Jason’s best friend, Biraro, offers superb folk wisdom: “Sometimes life makes choices for us.” Jason himself comes of age accepting he’ll remain in Uganda, rather than study abroad, to become a surrogate parent to his younger sisters.A totally engaging read.Joseph F Towns III

Moses is a stalwart member of Teachers for East Africa Alumni/TEAA who has written books over the past 40 years. He has lived, worked, married in Uganda and knows the land well. Thus the wonderfully authentic background to his story; he provides us with details that make his story rich. The narrative line is strong. Jason and Katura have a wealth of experiences in this young adult novel that reveal the kinds of pressures that youth face in unstable lands. What rings truest is the sense of agency that the characters have and that they are—well, most of them are—good people. As the acknowledgments declare, this author has at least one more book in him, and I shall be looking for it. A great read.

I read The Sky High Road and purchased copies for a teenage niece and nephew. The story was thrilling! I was transported to another land and another culture as two teenagers struggled for freedom from capturers who wanted to turn them into child soldiers. The visual images in the story were transfixing. I felt I had a front row seat. The story was well written and appropriate for adults as well as teenagers.

I enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It combines a classic adventure story with the political realities and real-life dangers facing African children today. I have read this book over a few times and it shows me something new every single time.

Moses Howard's novel is described as for young adults but I can attest that this reader was carried along by the action. Set in Uganda, a country of lush beauty and strong family loyalty, the story unfolds like Homer's "Odyssey," with one danger after another.keeping Jason and his sister Katura from their goal. They are fully developed characters, but they represent a generation of African children forced to grow up too soon and assume adult responsibilities when their parents die of AIDS..Jason and Katura are sent by their grandmother to fetch a special lantern from their grandfather in a distant village,. Along the way they are met by poverty, theft, deceit, temptation and, worst of all, are kidnapped by The Lord's Liberation Army. This outlaw group took children as slaves, raping girls and forcing boys to become brutal killers. Through their own bravery and ingenuity, brother and sister finally reach their goal. The reader will come away satisfied.

The Sky High Road by Moses Howard is all that the previous commenters and the publisher have said. It is a thrilling adventure story and yes, as claimed, it is suitable for grades 7-12, though I believe adults too will be enthralled. With ten years on the ground in Uganda and neighboring Kenya, Mr. Howard brings a rich authenticity to this book and he does not shrink from difficult topics. I’ve read 4 of the books in this series. Without giving anything away, let me start by saying the first 3 books were really good. I couldn’t put them down. That being said, at the end of the 3rd book I was upset that the story of Syssi and Kian really wasn’t over in my opinion. It went into the fourth book about Kians sister Amanda. But still had bits about Syssi and Kian. Their story wasn’t even over after the fourth book, but went into a story about Amanda. Which Amanda’s story wasn’t completed by the end of the fourth book either. So to me this series is going to ramble on and on with no completion to any couples story. I am not reading further into the series because I don’t like when an author leaves open endings, even after 4 books in.

This book hits you completely with the suspenseful play! I seriously don't know where to begin with this one. Syssi is curious about Kian and his family. Like the old saying goes, "Curiosity killed the cat." Well in this case, Syssi's trust. However, true love prevails. Syssi and Kian were destined for one another. Their chemistry is absolutely breathtaking and amazing. Honestly, I'm jealous of it. It's one of those you ache to have yourself, minus the hidden secrets.Dalhu is still being his sneaky self. Only now his plans are to discover where the clan is hiding Syssi and kidnap her for his own personal use. On the other hand, his relationship with Amanda may transform him. I'm eager to know if she can do it!This series keeps getting hotter, intense, and more addiction with each page. Time for Book 4!

I will keep this book forever. I have learned so much over the past semester, this book is really well written, not too dry even considering the material but if you stop and do the activities you can have so much fun. The linux examples use my favorite operating system, too, and even though their example is for Fedora 14 the examples still hold for Fedora 18.Pry this book out of my cold, dead, hands before I need to go to someone else for a networking issue.

Its an OK book. It is rather over priced and some of the content is dated. It is probably a book you should read before you delve into Odom Wendell's CCNA books, where you really get to make practical use of the theory and you can distinguish between FYI content and content that has practical value. There are better books out there, but this one reads very well.

the style that this texbook takes is unforgiving to a petson who is fairly new to networking. For example, it would suddenly explains a concept using critical words/nomenclatures that were never introduced prior to usage, leaving the learner clueless as to the mayerial just read. Diagrams often do not have legends. And what angry me most, the just dives right into explain the tecnical without relating the idea to the larger context. There are much better text on LAN and WAN out there.

Mansfield and Antonokos do a great job explaining each facet of networking in a way that anyone, regardless of experience can understand the basics and more. It even comes with a disc full of resources that are very helpful getting your foot in the door in the networking world.

I bought this book for a networking class, and it's exactly what I expected -- informative, useful, and dry. If they could have made it a bit more interesting I'd have given 5 stars, but that may be too much to expect from a textbook. I also have trouble finding what I'm looking for sometimes, but I think that may be because my professor jumps around in the book a lot, so I never know what section to look in. So that is probably not the book's fault.

i used this book for school so i purchased it to keep. very informative. a book you will want to keep, it telks you everything you need to network.

It was a decent textbook. I had to get it for a class since we actually had homework from it, it did a decent job of explaining the theories but nothing amazing.

I needed this for class, so I ordered the Kindle version. Exactly what I needed. I would recommend this to those going into the IT field.

Excellent! Well done. Perfect for someone like me who avoids financial knowledge even though having an advanced understanding of this subject is a necessity for successful living. I found myself taking notes; this is a positive sign that the information was interesting, easy-to-read, easy-to-understand and easy-to-apply. I would re name the book Everything You Need to Know about Annuity because the book was detailed and written for someone who doesn't know very much about this subject as well as someone knows a lot but needs a desk reference. The book covers the basics and includes advance information. The advance information was easy to understand because the basic foundation information had been presented. I loved the definition section best. The definitions were easy to understand. I didn't feel overwhelmed or confused. The book is short but filled with useful information. I will definitely keep this as a reference. I recommend this book to all adults. All of us need to know and understand the information it explains.

I have been looking to diversify my long term investments and was interested in learning more about annuities. I found the book to through and detailed, starting with the basics to more advanced investment information. The author clearly laid out the concepts in an easy to follow manner.I was especially interested in learning how safe fixed annuities are, which was covered in detail by the author. Types of annuities were presented, as well real-life examples of investors he has worked with to illustrate the concept. I recommend this as a thorough resource on investing with annuities.

This book is a short, dense read, packed with information. Along the way McLeod leaves many nuggets regarding things to beware of and explains details that matter to how you set up your annuity. This book should serve as a great reference for your retirement planning library. Mr. McLeod demonstrates a deep understanding of the subject and presents it extremely well. Highly recommended.

For ages I have been financially 'ignorant'. Not because I did not want to or did not try to understand, but simply because I felt it went way above my head. Now, FINALLY, someone explained annuity in a very simple way, so that even I can benefit from this knowledge! Kudos to the author for not using too much jargon and if he does, by giving a clear explanantion of it!

Not proofed for grammar. Feels like it was rushed out. Look for something better to learn the ins and out of annuities.

I have just started planning for my retirement and this book was a God send. It explains in simple terms with examples exactly what an annuity is. How safe it is, what to look for and what questions to ask.The book starts with easy to understand definitions that I found essential. From there the information was easy to follow and detailed enough for both a beginner and a more experienced person. The book was well written in an easy style and has helped me unravel the mystery that is the annuity.

Am a newly licensed insurance agent and this book went into a lot of detail that is helping my understanding of annuities.
