I had an older version of a book on National Parks of the West from another publisher; I used it as my initial planning resource for several years. IMO, this newer version from Fodor’s blows the old one away.I have already used this for one vacation, and am using it for planning several more. Everything about it is well done. It has over 900 pages of info. The book is relatively small for how many pages & how much content. It is clear and concise, well-organized, and contains a lot of useful information. I enjoy just reading it for entertainment, not just for strict trip-planning purposes.I highly recommend it. However, will all the positives said, depending on your nature, and what you want to do – you’ll probably still need to have additional resources to plan / execute a trip, e.g. various websites, some paper maps or atlas (if you are “old schoolâ€), and maybe some more detailed info for specific places or things to do. For a few day, casual visit, this book is probably enough, but for longer stays or more specific activities, you’ll probably want more detailed resources, e.g. topo maps and more detailed trail info to plan / execute more serious hiking / backpacking excursions, or dedicated guide book for specific park(s) or areas for staying more than a few days in that park or area.
This book was awesome on our great out west trip. It gave us lots of idea, great descriptions, and even some things to do that were not known to us from the National Park information. My only gripe was that in some of the chapters, for the bigger parks, it was a bit out of order and not as easily organized for some of the information.
Excellent overview of the National Parks. This is not meant to be a comprehensive view of any one park, but the general information is great and there is enough information on every park to give you a flavor of what they have to offer. Even one day ideas for a quick visit to some of the larger parks. Worth the purchase.
This is a great go-to guide book while exploring the Western national Parks. It has no nonsense information and maps that a good reference point to plan and navigate the parks. It is a handy companion to a smart phone for the times when there is no signal. We also use offline maps in conjunction with this book.
I used this Guide to plan a Western Parks trip for this coming September. It was very useful, as it contains a great deal of information to help me make decisions on what to see, where to eat, and where to stay. It also gives me further contacts for additional information gathering.
This guide is fantastic, helped a lot in planning our trip to many of the parks! Even with lots of information available on Internet, it was worth to have accurate info (in one place, easy to find) about everything we need to know before going. A must have if you are going to more than one or two parks!
I have version 4.0 of this book and love it. I thought I'd get version 5 in Kindle to take on our next trip west. However, I find that the park maps are cut of...only the bottom half of the Arches map is visible, for example. Get the hard copy of this book, however. It is our primary tool for planning our trips west.
This is well written and very well organized. I was pleased to find that it included Banff and Jasper parks in Canada also since that is a destination for us later this year.

I know Assembly, C, and C++, and until I read this book, did not know any Pascal. I got the book mainly to help me with Borland Developer Studio 2006. The last version I purchased from Borland was C++ Builder 4.0 and I wanted (in hard copy so I could read away from the computer) to understand the differences between the compilers. The book is written mostly for Pascal programmers, but it does a decent job covering C++.A lot of the programs, utilities, and examples I see from various sources are in Pascal. I decided now was as good a time to learn a new language as any. For my situation, this book was the perfect choice. I could read the C++ code then use that understanding to help me learn Pascal, all while becoming familiar with Borland's new environment.The book itself is fairly well written, though many parts are difficult to follow. It is not the right book for a new programmer - but compared to other programming books, it is a gem. If you buy this book, expect to spend time tweaking some of the examples to make them work, and don't expect to be told everything you need to complete the lessons. With that said, there was nothing I could not make work or figure out with a little thinking - which actually turned out to be a good thing because I learned quite a bit. There are also many good Windows programming techniques and ideas, which are quite valuable themselves.My overall impression? All serious Borland BSD users should have this book on their shelf.
I have several years of experience with C/C++ using MFC and Borland C++ Builder, and I have long been planning to expand my knowledge to Delphi. To this end, I found this book extremely well written with plain, well orgnized and easy to understand English. Albeit English is not my native language but it took me just 3 hours to finish reading almost half of the book (near 300 pages) with much enjoyment and I feel I already have a good jump start with Delphi. Of course, I guess the presented material might appear too fundamental to Delphi masters, but it is definetly a good book for someone who already have some experience with C/C++ but want to learn Delphi.Some have complained .NET is only covered at the miminum. But to me this is acceptable since I can find information from other books once I get a hold of Delphi in general. In short, this is a very good book and I would happily rate it with 5 starts.Continued Comments by the same reviwer after one year:Delphi in a Nutshell by Ray Lischer, would be a very good subsequent reading after this book.Also, this book doesn't touch on Web Services, XML programming, Refactroing, and Unit Testing. These stuff can be found from CodeGear website --- they have very good Webinar series on the topics that would compliment this book.
As a long time Delphi programmer from v1 through v7, C++ Builder programmer from v1 through v3, and Kylix programmer from v1 through v3, I found this book to be a very useful "nutshell" type book which provides both Delphi and C++ examples throughout.As others have noted though, this is not the book you want if you expect more than cursory treatment [...]- I didn't so I wasn't disappointed.Well written to boot.

Short notation: This book is great - and here is whyIts starts with the most simple programming without windows - it "aclimitize" your eyes to delphi code. Like me who havn't programmed for a while I love the way we clean out everything uninportant. You don't get a bucket full of paint over you at the first page, we go with easy steps to all the details. What a variable is and how it can be declared. All the container types there can be... Then we advance slowley and I simpley love the book. I borrowed it from a friend and fell in love with the way it was done! -- Now you just not stop with delphi - the book lets your feet get wet in C++ too!!Also he mention how math formulas can be delcared inside const variables can be declared, and its so neat!at the end of the book we shure get complicated - and for me who wants to get into the hard stuff - I can ashure that this fellow will have it noted as well used later on..This book get Many stars !!! We love you !!!at the same time - this is said - I wish that a math book in the same way could be published - accually I would recomend that to happend!

My family and I planned a trip last summer (2000) using this book. Our original plan was to spend most of our time in Santa Fe and Taos. After we read this book, however, we found several far more interesting trips that cost us about half what it would have cost in Santa Fe. Sure, we did a night in Santa Fe and Taos, but this book showed us the hidden spots in town that really were known only to locals. This book is so good that we even had a wonderful time in Farmington! Yes, that's right, Farmington. In fact, we plan to return their and once again enjoy the hidden restaurants and trading posts in which we found some of the most unique indian jewelry ever (and at about 1/3 of Santa Fe prices). Kudos to Ms. Moore! I just wish I could talk her into writing a similar book about Wisconsin.
This small but fact-filled book explores the richness of New Mexico beyond the Albuequerque-Santa Fe-Taos axis. The author really knows her stuff--giving equal weight to the Native American, Hispanic and Anglo influences that make New Mexico such an interesting state. It's in the car beside me every time I head there.
This is a nice book. It is well written.The chapters are devided into areas of New Mexico. In each chapter there is a little bit about the history of that area, places to visit and more information about other nearby areas.Having been to many of the areas that are discussed in this book, I found the description on target and the suggestions of places to visit good. I particularly liked the history of the area with directions to see some of the historical spots in each area.Very nice. Well worth the money. This book will join me in the car as we go on our trips. It will join the RoadSide History of New Mexico as one of our invaluable, must keep in the car resources.Enjoy.

If you are a CISSP thinking about upping your credentials with the ISSMP concentration, wait until this certification is vetted with a few more revisions before attempting the test.In April 2015, (ISC)2 released this second edition with updated references and question bank for the certification test. After failing the test the first time by a couple of questions, I doubled down targeting the identified weakness identified in the test feedback. I was somewhat concerned the test did not appear to reflect the CBK, but figured it was from how I targeted my preparation. After failing the test a second time with the same weaknesses and the same score, I sent a query to (ISC)2 identifying my concerns about the certification test and the information in the CBK and CIB. An excerpt from their response follows:"The exam itself is truly designed to gauge the members real world professional experience across the domains ... The CBK Guides themselves have never been designed to be written to the exam or as a study guide for that matter. Instead, they are meant to be an authoritative reference to the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) and serve as a go to reference guide for the certification in question."IAW, the CBK is not intended to prepare you for the certification test. Individuals contributed questions for the certification test based on real world experiences in the domains, not the CBK.Hopefully you have the right experiences to pass this certification. The CBK is not going to be much help in preparing for the test.
It's not a 3 star as I indicated. It's either 2 star on terrible quality or 4 start on good content. Author should fire the technical editors and look for a new publisher1) A lot of good content, not a lot of depth, but still a good read.2) Really seems to have been rushed to market - not a cheap book, would have expected much better quality.3) 2nd edition adds the necessary chapter to cover the new BOK that was missing from first edition.4) From presentation perspective, quite a few typographical errors. It's annoying, but doesn't diminish the overall content quality.5) The index is absolutely useless, I can't recall if any of the dozen or times that I used it that I was ever directed to the correct page.6) The questions at the end of the chapters are pretty good. The answers in the appendix are good as well - but not as one would expect. Quite a few are wrong, and the exercise of researching each for correctness was good learning exercise7) If you want a book that will help prepare you for the CSSLP, this is all you have. Until something better comes along, this one will do (or more likely, this one will have to do)
Do not purchase this book. I wish I had read the reviews before buying. I bought the book to prep for the exam. I had found the ISC2 CISSP practice test book very helpful, so just assumed that the ISSMP book would be good, too. Bad assumption.I started by going through the chapter review questions to baseline my knowledge. Checked my answers against those in the Appendix and found myself repeatedly disagreeing the book. Looked up the answers in the chapters themselves and found that I was right - the book says one thing and the answer key says another. I'll have to trust other reviewers that the chapters themselves have many errors, too. I'm not going to read them and will be returning this for a refund.
I am cramming for this ridiculous exam because someone above my pay grade decided it was necessary all developers to have this CSSLP cert. I take the exam this Wednesday. I am doing the review questions at the end of each domain and I finally had enough with the typographical errors in the questions, the answers, the poorly used English language. It is difficult enough to cram for this horrible cert, but to have to try and figure what the question is in order to answer because it does not make sense is too much!!! This book cost me about $80.00 and the exam cost me $549.00. This is just a cash cow for ISC2, to rake in more money. If I don't pass this exam, I will blame it on the book.Note to Mano Paul, please make sure you publish a book that is free of grammatical errors. You lose credibility putting out garbage like this.Update: I am trying to review the answers to the questions that I missed at the end of each chapter, and I have found that the index does not match up at all with the book. For example, database views are said to be listed on page 310, however, after much frustration and digging I found what I was looking for on page 297. Another example, involves looking for information on SAML. The index states it is on page 292, but it is actually on page 272. This goes on and on and on. I am going to demand that I get my money back from this author or the publishing company. This book cost way too much of my hard earned cash to be wasted on this garbage.
It is embarrassing that this book was even published and whoever proof-read it should be ashamed. The amount of typographical, grammatical and spelling errors is staggering and it completely distracts from the actual contact. I would in no way recommend this book.
I passed the CSSLP exam using this book as the primary source.Even though it is not aligned with the latest CSSLP CBK, it is still effective.
There are so many simple mistakes in this book that you have to wonder if the same inattention was paid to the content. This book is riddled with spelling, grammar, formatting and simple sentence structure mistakes. The review questions after each section are non-sensical and almost unreadable, let alone able to teach you anything. I actually stopped reading this book because I was worried I'd learn something wrong for the test. If you want the ISSMP, I would say find another source for your information but then again, if this is the "official" source material, then I don't think any derivative sources would be any better. Makes you wonder if the cert this ostensibly prepares you for is even worth attempting.

One word of advice is go to youtube and watch yoyochinese to learn about pinyin and tones. That makes these book easier to use as you need to understand the tones and how they are written in the book. They discuss it in the book but hearing is a must for tonal languages and it gets you used to the accents used to display which tone.
Man, I used this little book SO MUCH on my trip to Bali. I couldn't believe how little English was spoken. Every blog I read before going there said that English was widely spoken, but boy were they WRONG. All those blogs must have been written by people that stayed on resorts and never interacted with the locals. This book was priceless to me on my trip to Bali. I used it every day, sometimes so much that I just carried it in my hand instead of putting it in my purse. The very front of the book has some important phrases that you will use a lot, which is great, but even better was that the front also has room to notate other phrases that you use often that you can write in, such as "more strong/relax" for massages, "I'm just looking" for everyone that wants to sell you something every single minute of every day, and so many others. Indonesian is a ridiculously easy language to learn, but the nuance of the accent/dialect is very difficult and impossible to capture in a book. Even though I learned almost all the basics of the language in a week I was still not understood well and never quite got the hang out it. Fortunately the Balinese are very nice and helpful and loved that I put in the effort. So yes, I do recommend this book to all travelers to Indonesia. It's indispensable.
My son has been studying chinesse for 5 years, he is 13 and went to China for the first time, he said this book was incredibly useful, small and so easy to go through!
This is a great first introduction to Indonesian! I bought this before I traveled to Indonesia for a month-long stay. I had no prior exposure to Indonesian before this book and my travel, and though it is most helpful for traditional tourist travel, I still found it very useful! It is divided into logical sections, so you can read through the whole book, or just jump to the section that is most related to what you need to know right then. It's colorful and cleanly laid-out, allowing for easy navigation. Plus, it's small making it easy to throw in your bag without taking up much space (or weight)! If you are looking for an introductory book I would highly recommend this one!
I went to Indonesia for a month for an academic program where I mainly interacted with Indonesian university students and residents of a remote coastal village on Java. Very little English was spoken, but thanks to this book I was able to express almost everything I wanted to. I had no Internet so I could not use Google translate and this book was my only resource. But that didn't matter because this book has so, so much content laid out in a very easily accessible way. The cultural information boxes are also super helpful and made the book an interesting read in my free time. I studied phrases and memorized words from its extensive dictionary every night, and people were consistently impressed with how well I could speak Indonesian, despite the fact that I hadn't studied the language at all before my trip. This is not another silly little travel phrasebook you will never use. It is an interesting, intuitive, conveniently sized book that is key to connecting with other people in Indonesia.
A lot of info is stuffed in a small pocket book. It will come handy if you are traveling to Hong Kong or Guang-dong region.Here are a couple of things I liked about this book. (1)Even though the fonts are small (ie, pocket version), it does not strain the eyes because the paper is high quality and has colored fonts. (2)It has the Chinese characters next to all the sentences and words. I did not like those books which only have the romanization but no Chinese characters. In the long run you really need to know them. (3) A lot of handy info/words/sentences included (such as 'I want to make love to you' or 'leave me alone!')I have two reasons I can't give 5 stars: (1) It does NOT use the 'standard Yale' system--it could be a little confusing to those using Yale system (why don't everybody just use Yale???);(2)right off the bat, I noticed couple typo/errors in the pronounciation--I would use as a reference, not the primary source of studying Cantonese.Overall, I think it is a worth investment, especially considering the low cost.
I just returned from two weeks in Indonesia and found the Lonely Planet Indonesian Phrasebook & Dictionary to be indispensable in many situations, especially when shopping and in hotels, plus making acquaintances wherever I went. Also, the book is full of historical and cultural information. To anyone who doesn't speak the language, I would say, don't leave home without it. Hint - It helps to learn as much as you can from the book before leaving.
It even has a section for sexual language lmfao.Perfect lil guidebook, great structure, everything youd need in a lightweight, fully packed book.I still recommend getting a translator/dictionary on your phone, along with offline maps and Chinese social media like WeChat and QQ.You will meet many great people in China. Be strong, be vigilant and explore an ancient world unlike we know in the west.
