It takes cringe moments in the movie, and represents then better. The great Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is still portrayed as the pathetic, washed up, deadbeat hermit - but you begin feel sorry for him in this comic book presentation. A lot of it is narrated by Luke himself, and you feel his iner turmoil. Not to give spoilers for the few who missed the movie, story elements that bothered many fans are still there, Extracurricular parts, such as “your mama†jokes and getting green milk from the creature, is, thankfully, omitted.
This is only an adaptation of the film so tamper your expectations there’s not a lot here added from the movie. But the internal thoughts of Luke added more context for him and made it worth the read to me. The review is more for the comic not the movie (which I did love btw)
Great adaptation. Art is outstanding, story is true to the film but with added depth and insight. Really nice book. My kid loves it, thumbs through it almost every day and we’ve already read through it together a bunch of times.
I have read the first issue but am waiting for it to come out in oversized hardcover format. I have every other of the film adaptation comics in OSHC so if anyone knows of if/when it will get a hardcover release please let me know!

Wow! I thought I owned "everything Metallica" in terms of books from the "good old days", but this one takes the cake. The photos brought back so many memories of the "METAL SCENE" back in the day - and I was thrilled to see so many photos I'd never seen before! Teleported me back in time to the first time I saw Metallica: Scotia, NY in January 1985 in a dinky little club/bowling alley called the Skyway, about 3 miles from my High School - imagine, future Metal Royalty gracing my home town! (I was in college at SUNY Albany at the time, #1 thrash metal fan-girl on campus for sure!) Still have my original tour shirt from that show which is one of my most valuable and cherished possessions. I'm 51 now (yikes!) but those great memories never leave you if you are a true fan - thank God they were captured on film for all to enjoy now. Go buy it now!
This book is a must have for any Metallica fan who grew up with them during the mid 80's. I casually liked Kill Em All, liked Ride the Lightning a little more, but when I popped the Master of Puppets cassette into my Walkman, heard the intro for Battery, followed by the actual song, I was rocked! For me, it is their master piece. Of course I like most of what they've done, but this was special. A quartet of guys who dressed like the rest of us in the metal scene at the time, and just a few years older, created an unbelievable masterpiece and it was clear they arrived with the release of Master of Puppets. I saw them on April 21st 1986 at New Jersey's Brendan Byrne Arena in support of Ozzy. At the time, I was a huge ozzy fan primarily because of the Blizzard and Diary albums. I often tell the story that when Metallica came on, the place went ballistic, it was loud, raw, insane, we were blown away. Even when Ozzy came on, the place was still buzzing about what just took place. This book covers the time frame of the writing, recording, and subsequent tour for Master of Puppets. The pictures alone brought me back to that time and brought Cliff back if only for a little while, Metallica was whole again. I was lucky to see the original lineup live and in furious fashion, perform what I think is their best album in front of a bunch of rabid teenagers. Definitely buy this book if you want to be transported back to 1986.
Great, Great book! I have followed Metallica closely since 1986. Seen them with Cliff, Jason and Robert. I've read books about them, watched documentaries about them and thought I'd seen it all and knew everything about them. I was wrong! This book has never before published pics and a lot of information not made public until now. The depth it goes into about then Bassist Cliff Burton who was killed in that awful tour bus crash during this tour is very moving. This covers how much influence he had on the band then and even continuing on after his tragic death. I seen them on this very tour for the first time at age 18 with Ozzy. Luckily it was about a month before Cliff's passing. They crushed it on stage then and are stronger and better than ever 30 plus years later! A must buy for any Metallica fan...
Wonderful tribute to a timeless album and great bassist who was taken from us way too soon! :) Master of Puppets is considered by many to be Metallica's best album and this book takes you back to 1986 all over again! Get it!
If you are a Metallica fan than this is a must have. Very nice, well built book. The pages are a heavier than normal stock and the book just as an overall really nice feel. Now, for the content. This is from the Masters tour so that is what you are going to see inside. The photos are beautiful and plentiful throughout. Some really nice write ups are inside also. Like I said, if you are a Metallica fan, especially from the puppets days then this is a must have. Do not let the price scare you away. Worth every dollar!!

The never before seen or heard of events by many described in the book provided clear insight of their early metal days and the great "puppets" era. I can only imagine the hardships of the band losing not only a key member, but a brother. After reading the book I began to appreciate Metallica even more than I had originally. I recommend the book is for only the Metallica fanatics, as it's packed with such thick layers of detail. Great read and tribute to one of the most influential bands in history.

the usual entertaining story
I love books that draw you in and allow you to escape into the world of the main character. Mia King does that and her novels take just days (or hours in my case) to read. Marissa Price is so interesting and what happens to her life is amusing, and it's interesting how one can like her more and more as this story line progresses. I love a good story with interesting characters that's an entertaining read. My book club also loved this book for the interesting turns and twists in the story and the awesome recipes in the book. We all made a dish from the recipes and brought it to our book club meeting - it was paradise!! A fantastic book club read!
This was a fun read. There were some parts that seemed to drag longer than other subjects, but otherwise I really liked how the book ended. I'm looking forward to reading her other books!

I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever thought, desired, wondered, or moved to aremote and/or tropical island.An easy read with good character development.Also, the lead female character shows her strength and tenacity through the entire story.
I'm not sure that there is technically a genre called "mom lit," but I think I'd have to classify SWEET LIFE by Mia King as just that. SWEET LIFE is the story of Marissa, a wife and mother, who gives up her career and apartment in Manhattan to move to Hawaii for her husband's job. Oh and by the way, she hopes that by moving to Hawaii, she can save her marriage. This book definitely sounded like one that I'd enjoy with lots of family dynamics and conflict; and I'm happy to say that I did like it -- a lot. I am so glad that there are books out there for those of us who are "mature" (married with children) and that have interesting female characters.I really enjoyed SWEET LIFE. It is a great story with some terrific and memorable characters. It's a relatively light, easy read; however, it also touches on some very serious (and very real) issues that affect many women in today's society. I have a feeling that you will be reminded of yourself, or even some of the women you know, when you read about the female characters in this story. I loved how this book showed the strength and resilience of women, and how women will pull together to help others.I have to admit that I didn't always love Marissa. Maybe it's because I saw in her things that I don't like about myself, but she definitely got on my nerves in the beginning of the book. I found her to be very self-centered and at times almost arrogant; however, I like how the author developed her character. She was definitely flawed, and yet I found myself rooting for her. In so many ways, SWEET LIFE was really a coming-of-age story from Marissa (even though she was a woman in her early 40.) As a reader, I enjoyed seeing Marissa discover things about her relationships and her life in general that made her a better person. I was actually quite touched by this story, and it ended up warming my heart a great deal.As a child, my family moved a lot so I could totally identify to the parts of the story about acclimating to a new environment and a new culture. While I haven't experienced a move quite as drastic as moving to Hawaii, I could understand Marissa's frustrations and feelings of being an outsider. I thought Ms. King did a wonderful job of showing the huge differences between living in Manhattan and living in Hawaii. In fact, I thought her descriptions of Hawaii and its people were perfect.I think what I enjoyed most about SWEET LIFE were the overall messages in this story. After I finished this book, I just had to smile. This book showed the importance of family and friends as well as finding what makes you happy. I don't think I will ever tire of books that make me think about those themes. Of course, I also liked how Marissa discovered things about herself and realized what was truly important in her life.My book club is all 30- and 40-somethings, so I think SWEET LIFE would be a great discussion book for my group. I think many women will relate to at least some aspects of the females in this novel. There is a reading guide available which further delves into the themes of marriage, family, trust, self awareness, and friendships. I also think hosting a meeting for this book would be so much fun. Since the story takes place in Hawaii, you could do an entire island-themed party. And since food is such a huge part of this story (there are even recipes included in the back of the book), you would have no problem coming up with some awesome treats!SWEET LIFE is the first book that I've read by Ms. King, but it won't be my last. I already have TABLE MANNERS and can't wait to read it. Ms. King has a fantastic website that you really need to check out. She has a special recipe box section where you will find lots of delicious recipes and even recipe tips. She even has entertaining/hostess ideas, related food trivia, and guest author recipes. I think her website is a terrific resource for your next party or book club meeting.
"Sweet Life" by Mia King is pure beach reading...even if it's in mid-winter and the coast is miles away. The author, who has a flare for travel vignettes, re-creates such a vivid, off-the-beaten-path-where-the-locals-live slice of Hawaii that you can almost smell the salty ocean mingle with the fresh plumeria in the air...pass me a chunk of guava, please, ummm...now back to the book.An extra star goes to an interesting plot that involves the main character, Marissa and her husband Paul, along with their young daughter, undertaking a major relocation from Manhattan to Hawaii due to Paul's job promotion. Oops, one star down; some of the plot is a bit too incredulous. I mean, what are the odds of meeting an annoying fellow passenger on an airplane, only to end up roommates who transform from total opposites to total friends? Other unrealistic situations bring Marissa together with two other women who end up being Marissa's roommates after her husband skips out on her. Since the plot forces many of the puzzle pieces in the main character's life together, I could not get fully lost in the book.On the plus side, call me Pollyanna, but I love the fact that Paul, Marissa's husband who is on the brink of a breakdown, ends up being a squeaky-clean committed husband. It is a refreshing break from a divorce-thirsty society and the way Mia sets up these circumstances is quite ingenious, but definitely credible.The author's recipes (her hallmark) add another layer of sweetness to the book. I had an older version of a book on National Parks of the West from another publisher; I used it as my initial planning resource for several years. IMO, this newer version from Fodor’s blows the old one away.I have already used this for one vacation, and am using it for planning several more. Everything about it is well done. It has over 900 pages of info. The book is relatively small for how many pages & how much content. It is clear and concise, well-organized, and contains a lot of useful information. I enjoy just reading it for entertainment, not just for strict trip-planning purposes.I highly recommend it. However, will all the positives said, depending on your nature, and what you want to do – you’ll probably still need to have additional resources to plan / execute a trip, e.g. various websites, some paper maps or atlas (if you are “old schoolâ€), and maybe some more detailed info for specific places or things to do. For a few day, casual visit, this book is probably enough, but for longer stays or more specific activities, you’ll probably want more detailed resources, e.g. topo maps and more detailed trail info to plan / execute more serious hiking / backpacking excursions, or dedicated guide book for specific park(s) or areas for staying more than a few days in that park or area.
This book was awesome on our great out west trip. It gave us lots of idea, great descriptions, and even some things to do that were not known to us from the National Park information. My only gripe was that in some of the chapters, for the bigger parks, it was a bit out of order and not as easily organized for some of the information.
Excellent overview of the National Parks. This is not meant to be a comprehensive view of any one park, but the general information is great and there is enough information on every park to give you a flavor of what they have to offer. Even one day ideas for a quick visit to some of the larger parks. Worth the purchase.
This is a great go-to guide book while exploring the Western national Parks. It has no nonsense information and maps that a good reference point to plan and navigate the parks. It is a handy companion to a smart phone for the times when there is no signal. We also use offline maps in conjunction with this book.
I used this Guide to plan a Western Parks trip for this coming September. It was very useful, as it contains a great deal of information to help me make decisions on what to see, where to eat, and where to stay. It also gives me further contacts for additional information gathering.
This guide is fantastic, helped a lot in planning our trip to many of the parks! Even with lots of information available on Internet, it was worth to have accurate info (in one place, easy to find) about everything we need to know before going. A must have if you are going to more than one or two parks!
I have version 4.0 of this book and love it. I thought I'd get version 5 in Kindle to take on our next trip west. However, I find that the park maps are cut of...only the bottom half of the Arches map is visible, for example. Get the hard copy of this book, however. It is our primary tool for planning our trips west.
This is well written and very well organized. I was pleased to find that it included Banff and Jasper parks in Canada also since that is a destination for us later this year.
