This is one of three books I use to identify and price Hot Wheels. I feel I would be missing valuable information if I was missing any of the three books I have. Variations - The Ultimate Guide, Tomart's Price Guide to Hot Wheels 6th Edition Volumes 1 and 2. The pricing is different between these books, so you have to really look at what the market is doing and base your prices from that. Before I got these books I was selling cars that were rare and valuable for little of nothing, I wish I had bought these books sooner, it's amazing how little things like interior color, wheels size and origin can change the rarity and value of these cars.

These letters of Roman philosopher Seneca are a treasure chest for anybody wishing to incorporate philosophic wisdom into their day-to-day living. By way of example, below are a few Seneca gems along with my brief comments:"Each day acquire something which will help you to face poverty, or death, and other ills as well. Seneca outlines how we must first test and judge people we consider as possible friends, but once we become friends with someone, then an abiding and complete trust is required."The very name of philosophy however modest the manner in which it is pursued, is unpopular enough as it is: imagine what the reaction would be if we started dissociating ourselves from the conventions of society. There is a long, noble tradition of living the life of a philosopher going back to ancient Greece and Rome, that has, unfortunately, been mostly lost to us in the West. It is time to reclaim our true heritage."You may be banished to the end of the earth, and yet in whatever outlandish corner of the world you may find yourself stationed, you will find that place, whatever it may be like, a hospitable home. Where you arrive does not matter so much as what sort of person you are when you arrive there." -------- This is the ultimate Stoic worldview: our strength of character is more important that the particular life situation we find ourselves in. Very applicable in our modern world; although, chances are we will not be banished to another country, many of us will one day be banished to a nursing home."This rapidity of utterance recalls a person running down a slope and unable to stop where he meant to, being carried on instead a lot farther than he intended, at the mercy of his body's momentum; it is out of control, and unbecoming to philosophy, which should be placing her words, not throwing them around." --------- The ancient world had many people who talked a mile a minute, an unending gush of chatter. From my own experience, when I hear long-winded pontifications, I feel like running away."The next thing I knew the book itself had charmed me into a deeper reading of it there and then. . . . It was so enjoyable that I found myself held and drawn on until I ended up having read it right through to the end without a break. All the time the sunshine was inviting me out, hunger prompting me to eat, the weather threatening to break, but I gulped it all down in one sitting." --------- Ah, the experience of being pulled into a good book! When we come upon such a book, go with it!
Simple practical wisdom to help you navigate chaotic life. There are so many jewels in this book that I've probably highland more things than I have not. I simply cannot recall the last work of literature that turned on as many lightbulbs for me except perhaps the bible when I first read it. This wisdom though transcends religion in my humble opinion. A must read, but I warn you; the wisdom and enlightenment you gain from reading Seneca's letters will only further estrange you form your dumb friends. They won't get it or your interest in it, and as they continue to fumble about in the dark, the sweetness of your metaphysical ascension will mingle with some bitterness for their blindness.
As I progress on my quest for wisdom from the classical periods I recently read Cicero's "Selected Works" and Lurcreius' "On the Nature of Things" both of which I thought lacked in any deep knowledge and found them both to be greatly disappointing. So it was to my great delight that I stumbled on Seneca's "Letters From a Stoic" which I highly recommend. Some of my favorite passages loosely organized around a theme are as follows:On One's Relationship to the Material World:*It is not the man who has too little who is poor, but the one who hankers after more.*You ask what is the proper limit to a person's wealth? First, having what is essential, and second having what is enough.*Although the wise man does not hanker after what he has lost, he does prefer not lose them.*The qualities of a just, a good and an enlightened character does not regard as valuable anything that can be taken away.*I am not against possessing riches but I want to ensure that you possess them without tremors.On One's Relationship to Society:*Inwardly everything should be different but our outward face should conform to the crowd.*The road is long if one poceeds by way of precepts but short and effectual if by way of personal example.*You ask me to say what you should consider it particularly important to avoid. My answer is this: a mass crowd.*Associating with people in large numbers is actually harmful.*Retire into yourself as much as you can. Associate with people who are likely to improve you.*Avoid whatever is approved of by the mob.*If you shape your life according to nature, you will never be poor; if according to people's opinions you will never be rich.On One's Relationship to the Body:*Pick (any exercise) for ease and straightforwardness...but whatever you do, return from body to mind very soon.*Where you arrive does not matter so much as what sort of person you are when you arrive there.*A way of speaking which is restrained, not bold, suits a wise man in the same way as an unassuming sort of walk does.*Refusal to be influenced by one's body assure one's freedom.*People who know no self-restraint lead stormy and disordered lives.On Death:*Every day, therefore, should be regulated as if it were the one that brings up the rear, the one that rounds out and completes our lives.*If God adds the morrow we should accept it joyfully.*The man you should admire and imitate is the one who finds it a joy to live and in spite of that is not reluctant to die.*You will go the way that all things go...This is the law to which you were born.*You will die not because you are sick but because you are alive...In getting well again you may be escaping some ill health but not death.*We are born unequal, we die equal.On the Value of Philosophy/Stoicism:*It molds and builds the personality, orders one's life, regulates one's conduct, shows one what one should do and what should leave undone, sits at the helm and keeps one on the course as one is tossed about in perilous seas.*Only philosophy will wake us; only philosophy will shake us out of that heavy sleep. Devote yourself entirely to her.*For the only safe harbor in this life's tossing, troubled sea is to refuse to be bothered about what the future will bring and to stand ready and confident, squaring the breast to take without skulking or flinching whatever fortune hurls at us.*It is in not man's power to have whatever he wants; but he has it in his power not to wish for what he hasn't got.*Part of the blame lies on the teachers of philosophy, who today teach us how to argue instead of how to live...The result has been the transformation of philosophy, the study of wisdom, into philology, the study of words.*No man is good by accident, virtue has to be learned.By the way, before renouncing all worldly possessions keep in mind that Seneca did not practice what he preached, was intimately attached to the material world, and readers interested in an excellent biography of Seneca's life and role during Nero's reign should consider reading James Romm's "Dying Every Day: Seneca at the Court of Nero."

I have long been a bit fascinated by Gov. Christie and his ‘in your face, shock and awe’ approach to politics. In my mind, it’s based on the Rush Limbaugh philosophy. Of course, I abhor pundits and politicians who use this tactic, because it, ultimately, crowds out other ideas and tends to weaken democracy.So, my hope was to glean an understanding of Christie, Donald Trump, and the dynamics of Trump’s inner circle. Did I succeed?Yes, to a greater extent than I probably should have. Indeed, I have grown disappointed at just how similar Trump’s team is to that displayed on the old TV soap opera, Dallas. But that gets ahead of this review...BLUSH FACTOR: Although the number of eff-words is not large, they are present, so consider your own circumstances before purchasing this. For me, it did not detract. Nor do I think anybody should refuse to buy this book for the cussing.WRITING & EDITING: Co-writer Ellis Henican has done a terrific job of polishing up what must have been a dynamic tirade.Possibly, the most telling passage comes in the discussion of Gov. Christie’s appointment to chair the transition. We get a little insight into Trump’s mind, but we get a keener insight into Jared Kushner and, possibly, into precisely what threatens to derail the Trump Presidency.DISAPPOINTMENTS: Christie does give us some frank assessment of Donald Trump, but with nowhere near the degree of frankness for which The former governor was famed. Mind you, we should not be surprised, for he remains a Trump loyalist. Still, I had hoped that he would use his shock and awe to rattle Donald Trump in a sort of shock treatment, before the Administration implodes upon itself.BOTTOM LINEFar more interesting read than recent books by Ms Clinton, so I definitely recommend it. A total waste of time. Its basically Christie saying "look at me, look at how great I am." Its a self serving, self congratulatory, pat on his own back full of nonsense.It makes you realize how much like Trump he really is. A bully, a braggart, someone who thought only he could fix it when it came to NJ. After reading this all I can think is this is his lead up to another run.
To me it’s a great compliment when someone tells me that I write like I talk… and I talk like I write. That is definitely the compliment I am giving Chris Christie. His straight from the heart storytelling of his life… is just like listening to him talk on a TV program. He shares with the reader his toughness… as well as his inner soul. From the love of his parents and family… to the hard times he had in his early marriage… pride intertwined with disappointment in how his high school baseball career wound up… to being a U.S. Attorney… hell bent on cleaning up the government in New Jersey… where in a seven year period his office would charge nearly ten percent of their state legislature.His story will grab you right from the get-go… starting off with a mano-a-mano confrontation with Trump “campaign CEOâ€â€¦ Steve Bannon. When Bannon was firing Christie from the campaign despite Christie’s heavy involvement and direction… including but not limited to… being the first major political figure to endorse candidate Trump. From there the author goes back to his childhood… his upbringing his education… his early jobs… and his almost lifetime love of politics which was originally nurtured by his Grandmother… his rise through the many branches of government… including his two terms as New Jersey Governor… and his run for President.All the names that are constantly on the news every day of our lives now… from the big to the small… and the ones we wished would disappear… from Clinton to Rubio to Conway to Manafort… to Bush(s)… to Sessions to Obama(s)… all the cabinet members… and opponents. Christie's’ wild ride includes an almost choice as Vice Presidential candidate… and consideration for Attorney General…If that isn’t enough… there is Springsteen and “SHAQâ€... and a Hurricane created by Mother Nature… named Sandy… and the human hurricane named Christie… described as only Chris Christie is capable of doing! I don’t care what side of the aisle you sit on… this is a book that almost turns its own pages… once you open it up.
I have always been on the fence about Christie and in this book he won me over a bit more. I admire the work he did as US attorney and I do think he is smart. I think he is being conned by Trump and still doesn’t see him for what he is. One thing I do agree with, he spent a lot of time and effort on the transition, and all of it went into the trash. This was due to Kushner and the axe he has to grind with his father’s arrest and conviction. A straight talker, articulate, interesting even when infuriating to many. But this book is a total bore. Nothing new. A puff piece, written in a non-controversial way, so that, if he runs for office, or faces senate hearings, he hasn't insulted anybody. Sadly, Governor, you apparently ARE finished.
I’ve been a fan of Gov Christie for a long time. I loved it when he got in Rubios face during the debate and Rubio melted on stage. This book provides a real account inside the 2016 election. If you’re a Republican you’ll enjoy it. Dems will obviously give it a one star.

This excellent book will motivate you to get out and travel for as long as you possibly can. It is one of the best books I have read in the last decade, and trust me, I read a lot.While I loved the entire book, my favorite section was the last one on how and why all of us are already being world citizens. I found the arguments extremely compelling. I loved the following: “There is no real conflict between nationalism and globalism. On the contrary: It is to the extent that a nation becomes more global in its achievements that it becomes admirable.†What a simple yet profound idea, that I had never thought about! I wish all nationalists would read it. By the way, the author has nothing against nationalism.The book is mostly philosophical in nature, yet it is not Kant or Heidegger. It is practical philosophy in the style of the Stoics which seem to have had an influence on the writer (who by the way is from Cyprus, the birthplace of Zeno who founded Stoicism). There are chapters such as how to balance freedom and discipline while you travel, how to deal with beggars and other unpleasant realities in many countries, what mindset to have, how to go about thinking of your journey and creating a wise line of exploration, what are the most important transformative experiences a long-term traveler is most likely to have, and much-much more.The book is actually composed of three elements: the main text, travel stories (mostly with a philosophical flavor), and very beautiful photos from his journey. All these elements have been blended masterfully, and I have to say this is a very well designed book and on excellent paper, well-bound, that is a pleasure to hold in your hand – not many books so meticulously designed nowadays (congratulations on this Nicos!). From the travel stories my favorites were "Legs and Arms" (worth buying the book for just this very profound essay!), "The Merchant and the Musician", "Huichilopochtli" (about his imagining the Maya universe while in a museum in Mexico City), "Higher Perfection" (about how he experienced perfection in imperfection at a French restaurant), and, of course, "Universal Brotherhood." Wonderful little vignettes that one may return to many times.The photos are really great and are often related to the text, so you can jump from the stories to the text and then the photos. The two addenda in the end are also great, since they give practical advice to the aspiring long-term traveler.On the style of writing: Nicos writes in two styles. In the main text he uses a more philosophical and impersonal language that befits its subject matter. I found his writing to be very clear, very deep and pleasant. It takes some time to get used to it, especially if you only read novels and bestsellers, but once you do it flows beautifully. The stories have a more personal character, although he does not manage to get rid of his philosophical style completely in these either. Nicos delves deep even in the most simple of situations and squeezes out of every experience the teaching it has to offer – the "Higher Perfection" story is an excellent example of such a squeezing.On a final note, I have to admit that after reading the book I have subscribed to his "Tuesday Letters" blog and that I enjoy all of his philosophical writings that deal with our everyday life as well as with the big existential questions.

I loved the little stories of Nicos’ own travel experiences that were more than just simple adventures, but discoveries within themselves. Even each chapter’s footnotes are not to be missed, giving more detail on quotes, further discussions and more. The pictures not only capture nature’s beauty, but seeing real life in other parts of our globe – whether day-to-day activities, funerals, religious ceremonies or university students taking a break. Life and the world are meant to be experienced and through the words, thoughts and philosophies of Nicos Hadjicostis we do just that. And when James wrote to her that “If I could, I would fashion a world dedicated to your happiness,†she began to fall in love with him.Then suddenly a letter comes that changes everything. Kimberley is being forced to marry the disgusting, self-centered Lord Louvell. If James doesn’t get to her by the next day and marry her himself, he will lose her forever. All his fears about his disfigurement smother him, but he hurries to Leeds. Will he figure out how to win her when Lord Louvell has already established his claim? Would her family accept the disfigured stranger over the marriage they had arranged for her? Or can they find love, peace, and contentment with each other?I loved this book! Learning about someone without the visual distraction can create a surprisingly deep and lasting bond. They wrote to each other, knew how each other felt about things, what was important to the other, what caused them pain – and they learned to care deeply. This was a beautiful story, great pacing, and wonderful characters that were real and likable. This is one of those stories that will touch your heart. Don’t miss reading it for yourself to see what they must overcome and whether it will be strong enough to last.
Loved, loved, loved this book! Most of the characters from Deborah Wilson's previous "Valiant Love" series are in this story. It was like being able to catch up with old friends. (I just love this series) It held a range of emotions from sadness, humor, disgust, anger and love. The feelings are realistic and relatable. It was easy to identify with the character's emotions. The sadness can be summed up by this quote from the book: "After everything he'd done for her, he deserved happiness. Admiration. He would have it. She would crush him with it." I think that speaks for itself. At the beginning, I had to laugh at the hysterical audacity of Miss Kimberley Clemens. She is extremely delightful with her forthright and imaginative musings, which she only shares with Lord James Hayden IV, Marquess of Denhallow. She catches his attention because he read her letter written to her Aunt May who is his neighbor. Their romance and relationship is full of the pain and sorrow from their past. But there is also kindness, devotion and loyalty in this book. Together they embark on a quest to be there for each other, to support each other, to grant each other a chance for reprieve from the demands of society and to heal each other. Kim gets James to acknowledge he needs to reach out to a group of men that were caught up in the horror he experienced two years prior. When in London, while Kim is being introduced to society, he is meeting with the four men with a shared experience. The men come to a conclusion that their ordeal is not over. This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride were the highs are high and the lows are low. There are twists and turns in the storyline that make it unpredictable to really know the ending. My deduction of how things would end were way off base. I did not see the ending coming. An excellent read that I highly recommend.
While the plot was somewhat engaging, for a riff on Beauty and the Beast, that's be here the positive stops. The writing is sophomoric, with far too many abrupt sentences, and very awkward prose. There were many incorrect usages of words, and an endless supply of sentences ending with prepositions. Add to that a lot of formatting errors and triple spacing between very short paragraphs and you get a book that's a bear to read. The triple spacing is just a way to bump up the page count, and disingenuous at best. I have read a couple of this author's other books and don't remember being this disappointed.

It is a compelling read, Though it is a heart breaking story, and I had tears in my eye, I did not want to put the book down. His eye for detail is impressive, he creates such vivid pictures, full of imagery and poetic language, Even though he often says that he was angry his tone is mostly gentle and forgiving. I had the opportunity to listen to his interview on BBC, and I was under the impression that he is rather timid, but there was no hint of bitterness which was to be expected of a person who had to endure so much. I have read a number of biographical books written by children who had to endure a hard life, but this one was far more engaging. M.G.Oliveira
I would recommend this book to anyone!!! Whether you are interested in the topic of child soldiers or not, this is a book that will make you want to read more about the topic. What Emmanuel Jal has been through is something that most people will never understand, but i believe that this book comes very close.
If you like the book ,"A Long Way Gone", this is similar in that in being a well-written memoir. If you have a heart for Africa..interested in learning more about child soldiers/children in warfare, then this would be a great read!
I have been wanting to read this book for years and finally purchased a little more than a month ago and was very excited to begin. The first 50 pages or so were difficult but manageable as the horrors that Emmanuel saw were unbelievable, yet something that should be shared. I finally put the book down for good yesterday at page 104 after walking away from it for several weeks distancing myself from the horrors of war that he and other children were forced to endure.Emmanuel did an excellent job of recapturing the horror, fear, and impossibility of his situation. My heart exploded when he watched in horror what was done to his family and knowing that he was not only too young to witness these horrible acts, but also because he was too young to even understand some of the events that were occurring. His descriptions were vivid and life-like...I still remember vividly the horror I felt when he described the events between he and his friend during training.My intent of this review is not to bash the book as it was very well written and drew you in. However, I do wish there were more reviews avaialable before I purchased the book that let me know how emotionally draining and heart-wrenching it was to read. I have never not finished a book that I thought was well-written with a great story line...However, the horrors of this situation truly made reading anymore unbearable.

I cound't put down Emmanuel's story. He digs deep not only into the detail of his life, but into his emotions throughout. Very good read.
This book moved me. It is well written and easy to read as it flows well. It is hard to read because of the emotion it provokes. Leaves the reader with much to contemplate about our very small world and how blind we can be to things outside our protected circles.
I bought it for my son,he not really like it,story is difficult to understand and boring,little disappointed
