Review

"One of Natasha's many talents is that she speaks Kid Language. In a friendly, easy-to-understand manner, her words motivate and encourage, normalize and educate. Social Skills Activities for Kids comprehensively addresses the many and varied tricky social situations that kids of all abilities and backgrounds encounter at home, at school, and in the community. Children will feel respected and supported by the caring warmth that jumps off the pages and the cheerful illustrations that will appeal to all ages. This is an excellent resource for families and for any therapist's toolkit."―Yael Clark, Educational and Developmental Psychologist "I am thrilled that this book exists. As a clinical psychologist in private practice, I often see children that need some help learning and practicing social skills. I love this book because it allows me to give families a tool to practice on their own outside of therapy. It is full to the brim with lively, engaging, and effective activities and interventions for children and parents. Social skills are a part of a child's life that are often overlooked. Natasha beautifully integrates various techniques to address social skills deficits in the most important areas. These activities are wonderful ways for parents to learn how to better interact with their children based on their child's social competency. This is a MUST HAVE for kids, parents, and teachers."―Dr. Allison Solomon, Psy.D., PC, Director of the Virtual Center for Anxiety and OCD "If your child struggles to make friends, misreads social cues, or has difficulty listening and making conversation, get a copy of Social Skills Activities for Kids today! Natasha Daniels has created a book of fun, interactive activities that kids can relate to. Most importantly, this book normalizes kids’ challenges and validates their feelings while helping them build important social skills."―Sharon Martin, LCSW, psychotherapist and author of The CBT Workbook for Perfectionism "Natasha Daniels' Social Skills Activities for Kids is a warm, child- friendly compilation of activities to help elementary school children and caregivers master the essential skills for making and keeping friends. Natasha knows how to engage her young readers in this thorough, interactive, fun workbook that teaches important behaviors such as having manners, communicating at a friend's house, sharing, compromising, and more. In fact, this book is so useful, I am adapting the activities for teens and adults who struggle with social skills. This workbook offers useful strategies for teachers, parents, counselors, occupational therapists, and anyone else who wants to assist children in navigating the sometimes anxiety-provoking arena of successfully making and keeping friends, at any age."―Belinda Seiger, PhD, LCSW, Director, OCD & Anxiety Treatment Center of Princeton

Whether you are five or ninety-five you have experienced a socially awkward experience – probably more than one. If you say you haven't, either you're blind or lying to yourself. We have all gone through those time when we wish we could hide or climb into a shell – many of us do either or both.Although written with children in mind this book will help kids of all ages. Daniels clearly articulates what all of which we had learned. She walks the reader through the various social relationships which we all encounter throughout life. In each case she outlines what are acceptable and not acceptable behaviors and then with fun and entertaining activities helps the reader practice those things which once ingrained will make life so much easier.Daniels opens up about her own awkwardness. This draws the reader in and helps them identify with her. She is a successful writer and professional – if she has had problems then its alright for me to admit I have them too. With this transparency she helps the reader own up to their own issues and begin to deal with them appropriately. Each of the exercises and activities build on the other. And by the time you have finished the book you have developed your social skills "superpowers".If you have children or work with children, this book is an invaluable resource to help you help them. It also may help you become more socially adept as well.

Thank you, Callisto Publishing, for gifting me this book to read and review!.After working with kids and adolescents for quite some time, I find it challenging to find worksheets and workbooks that would ever grab their attention. However, this book has so many fun, engaging activities and exercises to follow that, to me, feel authentic and attuning to the population I work with. Whether you’re using the workbook for the physical worksheets, or adapting the ideas to an individual or group exercise, the possibilities feel endless. There are a lot of structured, rigid social skills group curriculums out there, and while they’re great, this book gives you the flexibility of fostering a teachable moment on the spot, without the need of following a week by week curriculum. When a specific problem presents itself, such as personal boundaries or making friends, this book has ideas and exercises to support approaching and working through the problem. I’m super grateful, as not many real, on their level books like this exist for kids. Filling a void I felt was there!

Natasha does a great job of making this book fun for both parents and children to read! Each chapter talks about a certain topic such as listening to others. She gives children activities to do with others and also examples of situations that could occur where the child has to choose what the right action would be. She does a good job of addressing problems that occur when social skills need to be worked on and offers practical solutions. At the end of each chapter, she summarizes with "you cracked the code." I like this because it reminds the reader what was gone over in that chapter and it also gives the person a sense of accomplishment. Fun book!

This offers 50 fun ways to help your kids (or their friends, or at your daycare, etc.) learn and understand social ‘rules’. It’s not just about having manners, it’s about learning to LISTEN, make friends and how to talk to others. There are ‘worksheets’ that can be filled out in the book or copied in you are working with more than one child. I liked the activities that allowed for creativity and interpretation. Great book!I took advantage of an offer from the publisher to get this book free and with no obligations. This review is given by choice.

This book is great! Well designed visually with good illustrations and easy to use activities. The progression of skills made sense and built on each other. Examples were appropriate for each concept. A younger child could use the book with an adult, while an older child could do much of it independently. Now if only grown ups had all of these skills mastered!

Great book. No matter how old you are, it provides insight and perspective on how each of us can feel better about interacting with anyone. Wonderful book. Can easily be used in a classroom or by a parent for any age.

This book is a great resource to teach kids social skills such as making friends and talking and listening. It consists of 50 exercises that make it fun for kids to learn.I received a free copy from the publisher.

Love it. Great activities presented in a very relateable and intuitive way. I will definitely use this one with my clients. My copy is a sample from the publisher. I was not required to provide a review.
